Clients will usually frequent the salon or spa for waxing, facials, or slimming procedures when I first started training in massage therapy in the early 1990s. Massage was one of those therapies that was perceived to be a luxury or a once-in-a-blue-moon treat.
I would admit that people’s lives were very different back then; many clients had a secretary or assistant who typed up work for them. For others, completing work was the end of it and there were no emails to search because not everyone had access to the internet. Since very few people had computers, computing on the couch or in bed was uncommon, and ‘Googling’ and social networking were virtually non-existent.
Things have improved since I arrived today. Many people no longer have secretaries, but they must deal with administrative tasks on their own. The majority of work is performed on computers, some at offices, and some in uncomfortable situations such as sitting on the couch or laying in bed. Long gone are the days where the job was over after you left the office; now we can be reached on our cell phones or check our emails at home if we are not on the road. Even after we’ve left the building or even before we’ve arrived at the office, our working day starts.
In hospitals, spas, salons, and fitness clubs, a number of massage-based services are available. Massage practitioners who come to the office have also been seen in clubs and shopping malls.
With so many massage establishments, how do you know which one is the best and how can you tell if you’ll get a good massage?
1) Online testimonials
For instance, online reviews are an outstanding way to hear what others have to say about a brand. However, keep in mind that certain feedback might be derogatory about the institution or a single member of staff, so you may miss out on a fantastic massage by someone who hasn’t been reviewed. There’s also a saying that goes, “a customer who has had a poor experience will tell five people, but a customer who has had a wonderful experience will not tell a person.” As a result, a summary does not necessarily have a true indicator of whether or not you will receive a “successful” massage experience.
